Class Descriptions

Ballet/Tap Combo dancers will enjoy this interactive class that builds on basic movements. The tap portion of the class will concentrate on building confidence through mastering more difficult patterns and steps in the center as well as across the floor. The ballet portion of the class includes an introduction to the ballet barre, stretching in the center, and across the floor work. *Our combo classes are not mommy and me classes. Parents are welcome to stay during the class and watch their child from our studio lobby. *

Jazz/ Hip-Hop Combo class will enjoy this interactive class that builds on basic movement. The jazz portion of the class will focus on flexibility, coordination, turn technique, and picking up choreography. Hip-Hop will focus on rhythmic movement to music. Students do not need to take a ballet/ tap class before taking this class.

Ballet students will learn classical ballet techniques and terminology. Each class includes barre exercises, center floor work, and across-the-floor combinations. As students’ progress through each level the curriculum will increasingly become more complex and intricate.

Tap is designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. Students will learn a variety of tap styles from Broadway to rhythm tap. Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement. The class emphasis is on developing proper tap technique, producing clear tap sounds, and having fun. As students’ progress through each level the curriculum will increasingly become more complex and intricate.

Jazz class will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with traditional jazz movement and includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations. As students’ progress through each level the curriculum will increasingly become more complex and intricate.

Contemporary combines techniques and skills from ballet, jazz, and modern. Students will also explore how lyrical dance emphasizes interpretation of music lyrics to tell a story with movement that can be fluid or abstract.

Pre-Pointe/ Pointe class can be taken on flat or on pointe shoes (with instructor’s approval). All pointe classes are designed for students with previous ballet training. Students will utilize previously learned ballet technique while working in pointe shoes. Each class includes barre exercises, center floor work and across the floor combinations. These exercises focus on strengthening the feet and ankles.

Musical Theatre class performs a One Act play every semester. The first month of this class students will learn stage techniques, terminology, and audition tips before the audition for the selected play. After that, each week will be focusing on learning and blocking the selected play for that semester.
